2007 NFL Patriots 3 Round Mock Draft Version 1

Here is my first go at he Patriots picks.  I will expand to all 7 rounds later on.

Pick #24

Texas S Michael Griffin

Pick #28

LSU WR Dwayne Bowe

I doubt Belichick will take Bowe, as I’m not sure he is the best player available at the time.  Dwayne Bowe is better than any other receiver at this point in the draft (particularly Robert Meachem), but I think he may go with a linebacker at this point.  Michael Griffin is a solid pick.  If everyone is healthy in the safety spot, Eugene Wilson can always move back to corner, as Griffin is an NFL ready player.  He also is a future option at safety, supposing Rodney retires in the next few years.

Pick #60

H.B. Blades LB Pittsburgh

Blades is a solid pick at this point, and seems to be a good fit for the 3-4 defense.  H.B. is primarily an ILB, but can on occassion move outside, because he is a solid pass rusher.

Pick #92

Marcus McCauley CB Fresno State

I doubt he falls this far, but if he does, he would be an immediate help at the cornerback position.  With all of the d-backs in the draft, don’t be surprised if one of them slips to this spot.  If Troy Smith still happens to be around, I wouldn’t be surprised if Belichick took him (as long as he is BPA).  I doubt it, but remember, Belichick might even go with a first round QB if he was the best player available.  Maybe that’s a stretch, but you get my point.

My bet is that none of these players are drafted by the Pats. Pick number 60 goes to Miami, because they are never going to match the Welker Offer. I also believe we trade pick number 28 for multiple lower picks.

I think if Dwayne Jarrett is available around 15, the Patriots will move up there to take him.
Yeah, I’m anticipating Miami not to match the Welker offer.

I don’t see the Pats moving up with the 2 first round picks unless Pioli and Belichick really really like a player that they believe can make an immediate impact. I like Blades’ bloodlines and production, but not his size. I still think it could be WR and LB with the first two picks. As always, the have the opportunity of the BpA in either situation. I lot of people forget the secondary was not healthy at all last year. Franchising Asante (best DB), signing Adalius Thomas (improved pass rush), and having guys like Eugene Wilson and Rodney Harrison play more than a combined 10 games will help the secondary great deal. And they’ll draft a quarterback, just not in the first three rounds.

I love wagering on National Football League. The bad part is that I’ve lost about $ three this month. I think the most enjoyable part is doing the research and using research to find holes in the odds.
