Rumor: Donte Stallworth to Patriots?

Last night on the Best Damn Sports show, Donte Stallworth was interviewed.  He said he would like to return to the Eagles, but upon being asked about possible free agency destinations, he answered:

“There’s New England, obviously being able to play in an organization like that, similar to the Eagles, who have definitely won a lot of games in the past.”

This is an interesting rumor Stallworth would really help in the receiving corps, especially if Troy Brown retires.  He’s a very fast receiver, and also has good hands.  Other teams he mentioned were San Fransisco and Miami.  He also said he wants to win a lot of games, and that’s something that New England does (no duh).

Stallworth will become an unrestricted free agent on March 2nd if the Eagles don’t resign him (they likely will not [because of trade specifications] until his contract officially expires, allowing him to test free agency if he wishes).

Stallworth is an eagle and will continue to be an eagle. He is loyal to Philly and will stay put, sorry to let you know.

Well, this is an interesting situation. First off I would agree with you when you say there is little chance The Pats sign Donte Stallworth, but not so much in the fact that he will remain in Philly. I would say its about a 50 50 chance he stays in Philly, considering the solid core of young weapons like Brown, Baskett, Smith and Westbrook. Also they would have to give up a lot for him, including a 3rd round pick, plus a lot of money to keep him, considering how Riedd utilizes his mid round draft picks much like the patriots to add depth all over the team like line and linebacker, dont be so sure they let him walk. Now as for him going to the pats, id say low shot if he makes it to the open market. He will be the only legit #1 possibility on the free agent market, and with other teams needing WR’s then there may be a bidding war and goodbye to the patriots chances then. It would be nice though, seeing Tom Brady with a decent core of recievers.

Huge news today about Stallworths future, the biggest team in the hunt, the San Francisco 49ers are now all but out of it. Stallworth recently said he would be very interested in playing for the 49ers, but only if Offensive Coordinator Norv Turner stayed on as O Cooerdinator. Now that he is hired as the offical coach of the Chargers, it would take a lot for him to now go there. This puts the Patriots in a much better position now, especially if he actually becomes a free agent.
Please give Brady some longterm weapons.

Kyle, sorry to bust your bubble, but in this age, nobody is loyal to their teams. Did you think Patriots fans expected Adam Vinatieri to go? No, and things like that happen to every single team almost every year.

Thats awesome that San Fransisco is out of the running. I agree, our chances at him are pretty low (think about Keyshawn Johnson and Eric Moulds last year), but the most important thing is that he is interested in being a Patriot, which he is. But I can’t help but expect the Patriots to lose in a bidding war if it comes to that.

The Patriots dont pay big money for receivers. Tell me the last time they did. I would love to see Stallworth here though. Brady needs a non-bug eyed reliable receiver.

I believe Donte will become a Patroit. He is a great team player and would love to have the opportunity to catch from Brady. The key thing here is that I believe the Pats coaching staff and Brady will know how to utilize Donte. His entire time at the Saints and at Philly he was not used properly. He hasn’t even hit his potential yet!!!

horn is garbage! Welker is middle of the road…Stallworth has raw talent, getting him would be the best move we could make.

stallworth will most likely go to the titans because after loosing Wide recievers drew bennett to the rams and bobby wade to the vikings the are in need of a wide reciever very badly. in the draft (picking 19th) will go after ted ginn jr or Dwanye Jarret.

As a Pats Fan I would love to see go Donte Stallworth to the Patriots. And I think he will. Because he likes to win games and championship. but i can be wrong if the titans or the niners give him
alot of money to him.

I thought it was pretty funny when that was posted. Ever heard of free agency… and money?

so i think it’s fair to say that not only did the patriots change their attitude on free agents a little bit this off season, but the are pretty clearly the winners this off season. it remains to be seen what will happen with the draft, but i think they will only improve their off season in april. winning your fourth superbowl…..priceless.
