Rumor: Patriots Interested in Restricted Free Agent WR Wes Welker
A lot of Patriots fans might remember him for his big games against us. His play as kicker, kick returner, and wide receiver. Wes Welker is a very versatile player who had a breakout year in 2006. Welker totaled 67 catches, for 687 yards.
The Pats have shown a strong interested in signing Welker. However, he is a restricted free agent, and has been given a $1.3 million tender by the Dolphins. This means the Patriots can make an offer, and the Dolphins can match it. If they don’t match it, then the Patriots get Welker, but give up a second round pick for him.
