Tuesday Notes
Patriots Sign Two Tryout Players
Two of the Patriot’s tryout players, Chris Dunlap and Denny Poland. Chris Dunlap is a wide receiver from Georgia Tech, who played with Calvin Johnson. At 5-11, he is a speedy receiver who can return kicks. However, he doesn’t have much pass catching experience, catching a collegiate high nine passes his senior season. Denny Poland, a safety, was very productive at Air Force. Last year, he served as a Second Lieutenant in the Air Force. Skill wise, he is a strong tackler, and has a big, strong frame. It will be interesting to see if he could make an impact (I believe he has a shot).
Justin Warren Released
Texas A & M linebacker / defensive lineman Justin Warren was released today. He was on the training bike all weekend, so this wasn’t much of a surprise. He seemed like a good fit for the 3-4, but of course, not all players work out. On a side note, he is not related to Ty Warren, despite growing up in the same town, playing the same position, going to the same college, and playing on the same team
Danny Baugher NFLE Special Teams Player of the Week
Danny Baugher, Patriot’s allocated punter of the Rhein Fire, won the NFL Europa special teams player of the week for last weekend. He averaged over 45 yards per punt on 5 punts. On the season, he is averaging 42.5 yards per punt. The reason I mention this, is because he is greatly outplaying the Patriots other allocated punter Tom Malone. Malone is averaging around 39 yards per punt and has far less downed within the 20. Danny Baugher might just get a chance to compete for the punting job against a rehabilitating Josh Miller.
