Rumor: Patriots Looking to Draft Darren McFadden?
The Boston Herald reports:
The Patriots would normally be stuck for the longterm in a situation like this, but the 2008 draft brings a fascinating wrinkle that could actually knock Maroney down the depth chart, if not hasten his departure from New England altogether.
His name is Darren McFadden.
The Arkansas junior and Heisman Trophy finalist is expected to declare for the draft in the spring. The Patriots, thanks to a brilliant draft-day trade with the 49ers, own San Francisco’s first-round pick. If the season ended today, that pick would be No. 2 overall.
Word around the league is that the Pats have scouted McFadden extensively and are fans of his game.
I wouldn’t say Maroney is on his way out of New England, but his injuries have been a concern. It’s good to see that Patriots scouts agree with my infatuation for McFadden!

No way the Pats take McFadden. They will not pay the 25-30 Mil gauranteed money to a rookie, let alone a rb. They could use the same money to sign Samuel, a proven NFL player. More likely they move down, take a first later in the round and a second or third in this years draft or next years draft. They really need to get more athletic at LB, and they don’t need to draft in the top ten to do that.

Well, you wouldn’t expect the Patriots to spend money on a player like McFadden, would you?
But then again, you wouldn’t expect the Patriots to acquire Donte Stallworth, Adalius Thomas, Wes Welker, and Randy Moss all in one offseason, would you?
I wouldn’t be too quick to think the Patriots wouldn’t take McFadden. And based on these sources, it at least looks like they’re considering it.

Are you serious, I have no doubts about Mc Fadden panning out. He is a more durable Adrian Peterson. He we be worth the money. With the reserecting of the recieving core there is actualy trade value with the recievers that N.E could use in a trade for 2nd and 3rd round picks to help the LB core. Keep Randy Moss, take Mcfadden and with the play action you will be able to get Vrabel open on a fly route opposite from Moss.

pats need a rb. Maroney and Faulk are ok but pats need a productive rb. Maroney plays his best when is rotating with another rb like in minnsota when he was with marion barber they were the best 2 rb tandem. maroney also has injury problems. kevin faulk is old now. so pats should get darren macfadden who could be another L.T. maroney and macfadden could be the best nfl running tandem

Waaaaaaaaaait a minute. Paul says that the Pats wont spend that money guaranteed to a rookie. does that mean they’re forfeiting their top-5 pick? Who has ever traded out of the top 10 with a possible No. 2 pick!??? You’re crazy. If they’re not crazy about McFadden they may grab someone on defense, either a young LB or DL.

I am a Razorback Fan and love Dareen McFadden, but I sure hope he doesn’t end up at New England, the team who spys(no wonder they keep winning). McFadden deserves better.
