John Lynch Visits With Patriots

With safety Tank Williams recently placed on injured reserve, the Patriots began to look at other options by bringing in free agent strong safety John Lynch on a visit.

Lynch, 36, a nine-time Pro Bowler, would likely see the field in sub-packages, as he shares a lot of the big hit ability and toughness that Tank Williams and Rodney Harrison both have.  We would likely see him move up and have some linebacker-esque responsibilities, also similar to Harrison and Williams.

To me, Lynch seems like the closest match to replace Tank Williams, and would seemingly be a smart pick-up.  That is, if he can get past his injuries, and if age hasn’t caught up with him.

Lynch visited with the team as a free agent back in 2004, per Mike Reiss.

Also, as a side note, ESPN.com’s John Clayton expects the Patriots to make a decision on veteran free agent Junior Seau by the last week of the preseason .
