Tight end was a relative weak spot for the Patriots in 2008. Ben Watson and David Thomas were both inconsistent. But suddenly, tight end is no longer an issue.
The NFL network is reporting that the Patriots have reached an agreement on free agent tight end Chris Baker. Baker, as you probably know, was most recently with the New York Jets.
Baker looks to be a solid blocker as well as a solid pass catcher, although he isn’t going to amaze you in either area. The Patriots now have Benjamin Watson, Chris Baker, David Thomas, and Tyson DeVree at tight end.

Good pick up by the Pats. Fills our vacancy at TE. Baker can block and catch, so he will fill the void of Kyle Brady from two years ago.

Yeah, plus he’s younger. I think this deal might end up being a multi-year contract. Can’t be too sure though.

wow vrabel to chiefs…think that could be a sign that they are looking at peppers seriously to bring a younger linebacker / playmaker in??

Yeah I didn’t see Vrabel being moved at all. Not sure if Peppers is what we’re going to be bringing back to fill the void, but the kid Connor Barwin now looks like a very real possibility to come in and play right away next to Mayo.
