Of course this wasn't the best deal they could get. The Texans got a 4th round pick for Sage Rosenfells. Sage Rosenfells!!

I find this very, very hard to believe that this is the best deal out there for the Patriots. With most people having Stafford #1 and Sanchez in the top 10, wouldn't that max out Cassel's value around the same as Sanchez's and the worst better than Josh Freeman (who probably could get a Flacco-type situation last year). I don't know if they were going to just cut Vrabel anyways, and this prevented him from turning on the chiefs and signing for more somewhere else, but you would think Vrabel and Cassel would be worth more than this.

Wow, Michael Smith just reported that McDaniels wanted to trade Cutler for Cassel and the Pats Vikes and Denver were working a trade until Rosenfels got to the Vikes. It would have been Cassel to the Broncos, Cutler to Minnesota, and picks to the Pats. I would imagine if this had gone down, it would have been a couple of 3rd rounders to the Pats?? Who knows.

Kellen Winslow gets you a 2nd and 5th. Cassel and Vrabel get you a 2nd? This is still a good move for the Pats, but seriously they got short changed. I was unaware that the Patriots had established the KC Chiefs relief fund.

I definitely think some sort of pick would have been in play for next season on top of this 2nd rounder. But time to look at the positives: we have a 1st and three 2nd rounders, cleared some serious cap space and now know that Tom Brady must be ready to play as soon as camp starts. Time to reload our defense, pick up a viable #3 WR and make a run at another title.

I was hoping to get more as well. But I consider Vrabel a salary cap casualty and I think the market for Cassel was drying up, with Detroit looking like they are sold on Stafford and Minnesota just acquiring Rosenfels, who they have coveted for a couple years now. #34 is more than I thought they would have gotten 2 months ago.

Hahaha, apparently. I really think we could have gotten more from the Bucs. At least we can get Connor Barwin to replace Vrabel at number 34.

In my opinion, we really didn't get enough back. I would have liked some kind of conditional pick in 2010, which was originally reported.

Man, would have been nice if Matt agreed to like a 7-year deal with us to become the franchise QB after Tom, but you have to understand that he wants to start. Now I just want to know what we got in return.
