Patriots Acquire WR Greg Lewis from Eagles

The Patriots have just filled a void at receiver by acquiring wide receiver Greg Lewis.  Adam Schefter was the first to report the trade.  It will most likely be for a conditional draft pick.

I might be in the minority, but I really like this trade.  It probably won’t be for more than a fifth round pick, so it’s low risk.  Lewis is a speedy guy who doesn’t have the greatest hands, but runs decent routes to get open.  I think he is a viable replacement to Jabar Gaffney, and worst case, is the 4th or 5th target.

You might remember that Lewis has had a knack of torching the Patriots.  In 2007, he had 88 yards and two touchdowns against the Pats.  And in Super Bowl XXXIX he had 4 catches for 53 yards and a touchdown.  If he can play anywhere close to how he has played against us, Lewis could be a surprise to some people.

Yep, that was the play.

Yep, that was the play.

Not a bad move. My friend that works at the Pats says it’s a 5th round pick we’re giving up.

Yeah, I just read that we’re getting a pick back in 2010 as well. So really, we’re getting him for almost nothing. He’s a good special teams player, so worst case he thrives there.

Yeah, it’s pretty much a free agent pickup, essentially. Nothing too bad can come of this.

Question for you: your thoughts on TO coming to New England?

Can’t really see it happening, nor do I want it to happen. I think he is just too much of a distraction, he’s not healthy for any locker room. But talent wise, it would be ridiculous with T.O. and Moss on the outside, and Welker in the slot.

But if you ask me, I think there is one bonafide receiver the Patriots could acquire. Chad Johnson. He has immense respect for both Belichick and the entire Patriots organization, as Belichick with him. If we could work out a deal with the Bengals for a second round pick, that would be really sweet.

T.O is ass hole! He is too slow….drops sure catches…he don’t deserve to be in pats uniform!
Torry Holt want to leave Rams so we could look at this wide!

ESPN just reported that the deal is official: Greg Lewis and a 2010 7th round pick for a 2009 5th round pick. Sounds good to me.

TO to the Pats would be great. Although reports are that agent Rosenhaus was spotted in Tennessee today. Dammit.

No TO!

That guy is a bum and a cancer, having him on the team wouldn’t help. Chad Johnson neither. No way in hell we get either of those guys.

Greg,

How do you do it? Predicting a 5th in the Lewis trade. This blog rocks.
