Overview:

While the Patriots could be “set” at the safety position for 2009, there is a strong feeling that the Patriots want to add another youngling to the position, specifically at strong safety.  Currently, Brandon Meriweather and James Sanders are the starters, with Tank Williams as the strong safety/linebacker hybrid.  There is also Rodney Harrison, who is currently a free agent and contemplating retirement.  Heading into the 2009 draft, the Patriots may look to pick up a Harrison replacement.  They have already taken a strong look at some of the top safeties in the draft, including Patrick Chung, Louis Delmas, William Moore, and Chip Vaughn.  All in all, I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if the Pats used one of their second round picks on a safety.
