Patriots Will Not Draft Clay Matthews

There, I said it.  There’s absolutely zero chance that the Patriots select Clay Matthews with their first pick today, and I’m sick of seeing him going to the Patriots on every other mock draft I see.

He’s a good player, but he doesn’t fit the Patriots 3-4 scheme in any way.  Is he a rush linebacker?  No way.  He doesn’t have much experience rushing the passer.  Is he an inside linebacker?  This could possibly be his best fit for the Patriots, but I don’t buy it.

By the end of today, if Clay Matthews is a Patriot, I will be absolutely shocked.

HAHAHAHAHAAHA Well, easy for me to laugh now but this analysis could not have been more wrong.

I stand by what I said. I just didn’t see Matthews as a fit in the 3-4. Most people didn’t. Obviously, I was wrong, but I’m still waiting to see what he does next year. And I most certainly stand by Maualuga, he wouldn’t have fit either.
