I don't know anything about this kid, but I'm hearing good things about him. My brother went to training camp on Sunday and said that he is quickly becoming one of his favorite players on the team. Now I don't know if that is like a Walter McCarty-esque fan favorite (more or less sympathy for a bad player) or not, but my friend that works for the Patriots says he is getting a lot of run with the first team. Now that probably is because Randy Moss doesn't exactly play much during training camp, but perhaps this kid can bring some production this season as a 5th WR if he beats out Brandon Tate and Sam Aiken.

Anyone know anything about Edelman or have seen him themself?

Well, from what I've seen, he's lightning quick.

Like Wes Welker.

Let me show you some numbers:

Now in the 40 yard dash he ran a 4.52, which is good, but not great for a wide receiver.  But, in the 20 yard shuttle (a measure of acceleration, agility, and quickness), he ran a 3.92.

Let me gauge that for you.

In 2008, DeSean Jackson, the lightning quick Eagles' wide receiver, ran a 4.19 in the 20 yard shuttle (he ran a 4.35 40 yard dash).

Wes Welker even ran a 4.01, which is also considered very good.

If that doesn't say something, I don't know what can.

He's still working on his hands and technique as a receiver.  However, I think he could return kicks and punts day 1, and eventually become a very dangerous weapon in the slot.

Altough I'm probably getting ahead of myself, the dude has impressed.

The shuttle is definitely a good gauge for a player expected to play more slot than out wide, so that's a great sign. Definitely sounds like a punt returner right away and would be interesting to see if they line him up in the slot with Welker, Moss and Galloway on the field at the same time.

I don't like looking to the future with this team, but if Brandon Tate can recover from that knee injury, maybe he and Edelman can be a nice 1-2 punch down the road.
